Free Art Fridays part 2

Aunty has been ninja-ing around Blackpool town centre again leaving little crafty prizes for one and all.  This time we have badges, jewellery and a cuddly chicken called Clive along with a card and a little note.

We hope that the lucky finders will get in touch and let us know that the pieces have found a good home.  Why not pop into town and see if there are any still there?  The clues are in the photos!

Free Art Fridays: Aunty Spreads the crafty love!

Aunty has just been on a free art drop in Blackpool town centre.  Arty Farty Fridays, started by local screen print artist Robin Ross and inspired by the capers of street artist My Dog Sighs involves placing art on the street for members of the public to find and take home.  For more on the background of Free Art Fridays and the movement in general see the Facebook page.

Aunty has been sneaky-sneaking about Blackpool town centre leaving little bundles of fun for people to keep.  We left a selection of badges, jewellery and hair accessories along with a card and a note.  We hope that the lucky finders will get in touch and let us know that the pieces have found a good home.  Why not pop into town and see if there are any still there?  The clues are in the photos!

Flying the Flag: A crowdsourced textile art project

Last month Knittaz with Attitude took part in The Fabric of the Flag exhibition at FY Creatives in Blackpool.

For The Fabric of the Flag curator Robin Ross invited a group of artists to consider issues which surround the idea of a flag. Responses looked at the properties of flags in wide ranging terms; influence, symbolism, inspiration and even the basics of the fabric which makes them.

“Flags are changing nations lives, futures and indeed the political map of the world.”

Artists: Aunty Social / Edwin Firminger / Garth Gratrix / Kevin Walsh
Jamie Cook / Robin Ross / Sam Horsley / Shane Gray / Sharen Kaur / Ruby Coupe

Naturally, ours was woolly :D
A big thank you to all who took part knitting and crocheting squares and stars and sewing pieces together.  An extra big thank you to those of you who found us via Twitter and posted squares to us…you rock!

Yarnbombing the YMCA: International Women’s Day

On Saturday 10th March, Aunty hosted a yarnbombing workshop for young women (age 13-16 years) from a variety of youth groups from Wyre.  Activities included dance and various arts and crafts activities and took place at Fleetwood YMCA …Young (wo)man, there’s no need to feel down, la la la.

Participants learned how to get crafty and stitch together a variety of woolly loveliness to create a flower garden outside the entrance to Tommy’s the local youth club.  All in all, it was a lovely day, we had some great positive feedback from the groups and created a woolly wilderness to boot, fabulous!
