Help us spring clean our new HQ and get launch tickets (including cake and cocktails):
Aunty has secured a town centre venue through the Blackpool Culture Shops Project 2011 and needs lovely volunteers to make her HQ spick and span in time for the launch of the project on 8th July.
If you are free to lend a hand between Monday 4th and Friday 8th July, please visit the Facebook event page and follow the instructions to mark your availability.
All of the time slots last 2 hours and you can choose more than one. All helpers will receive an invitation to the event launch on Friday 8th July at 6pm (details will be given on signup).
Last night was the first Knittaz with Attitude (KWA) session at Claremont Park Community Centre, Claremont Rd, Blackpool. 22 knitwits came along to knit one, purl one and maybe drop one!
Our knittaz either brought their own work or joined in with our yarnbombing project…part 1 making snuggly little lamp-post cosies 🙂 with slogans such as:
– I love lamp (post)
– Keep Blackpool Toasty
– Big up your knitting needles
– Son of a stitch
– Aunty says “yeah boi!”
It was lovely to meet new people and see new faces, as well as learn new skills from our more experienced members (yes Pat, that’s you!). We also shared info on where to get the best deals on woolly goodness as well as inspiration for new projects.
All of this was, of course accompanied by the mother of all buffets…good times!
Thanks to all who turned up and to Caz and Mel for the yummy food, you will now be known as Buffet the Banquet Slayers.

Last Wednesday evening Aunty’s first “Connected” event took place at the Number 5 Cafe. For those of you who don’t know, Connected is our evening where we help third sector organisations get to grips with social networking and how it can help their organisation. On the night we had nearly 30 organisations show up to listen, ask questions and begin their social media journeys.
First up on the night was Nathaniel Cassidy who delivered a brilliant presentation giving insights into the various social networks out there as well as some real life examples of when employees from private companies have got it wrong and suffered the concequences online and in public. Next up was Duncan Hodgson who gave us some more localised statistics about internet and Facebook usage in Lancashire and Blackpool. Duncan also incorporated a short ice breaker to get everyone in the room sharing – attendees were asked to tell the group their name, who they work for and three hash tags (facts, things or interests) about themselves. After the presentations had finished we got into the social media surgery time. Attendees had the opportunity to spend some time one to one with a “surgeon” who could answer their questions in real time and actually do – rather than discuss. Between our surgeons we managed to get quite a few of our local organisations signed up to Twitter including Blackpool Advocacy, Libery Church Blackpool and UK Online Centre (Blackpool). A lovely time was had by all at the Right Royal Stitch up. We had a great time making felt flowers, jewellery and knitting. Thanks to Kerry and Craig at Barista for being really welcoming and helpful.

Good golly, Miss Molly, word doesn’t half get around quickly! Aunty Social has had a great response, thank you, thanl you, thank you! It’s lovely to know that people are interested and want to get involved.
We will hosting own very own arts and crafts marquee at Yomofo ALFRESCO on Saturday 11th June 2011 ! Laid back beats and safe fun-packed day for all the family. Including craft and fun for the kids, laser tag, local artists showing what they do, entertainers, live graffiti art, puppets, football coaching, bboy and street dancing lessons! Lots more to be confirmed.
