BFI Film Academy applications are now OPEN!

BFI Film Academy BFI Film Academy 2024/25 applications are now OPEN!

We’re looking for 10 young filmmakers and film fans aged 16-19 to take part in our BFI Film Academy 2024/25. This project will cover practical filmmaking skills, film theory, programming, distribution and certification.

During this project you will work with your fellow young filmmakers and a range of industry professionals to make a short film from start to finish. You’ll learn about everything from development, production and post-production as you are guided through the filmmaking process. The academy will conclude with the opportunity for your film to be screened at HOME in Manchester.

Whether you are an avid filmmaker, have studied film or are just starting out with a passion to learn more, then this is the opportunity for you!

What to expect on the course
  • It is a 5-month commitment, but well worth it!
The workshops will take place across multiple locations, from Blackpool School of Arts and Aunty Social to Backlot Cinema and filming days on location and weekly remote sessions you can attend from home.

  • The BFI Film Academy Short Course is an intensive filmmaking course for all levels – No previous experience of film making required, just a love of film and an interest in the industry.

  • You will work towards achieving a Silver Arts Award qualification.

  • You will learn the whole process, creating a short film production like the professionals, with the professionals, for a hands-on, industry reflective experience.

  • Places are fully subsidised, we will provide lunches at full day sessions and travel bursaries are available.
