SUMMARY:A People's Plan for Blackpool
DESCRIPTION:As part of our series on Defeating Narratives of Division\, we
will look at how organising around issues that are widely and deeply felt
across community divisions can create opportunities for people to work tog
ether and develop mutual trust and respect.\n\n\n\nWhat bigger issue could
there be here in Blackpool\, than the question of regeneration?\n\nOver t
he last decade there has been two billion pounds worth of investment\, tha
t’s the equivalent to £13\,000 for every person living in the town. But
what difference has it made to the lives of ordinary Blackpool residents?
\n\nToday\, seven out of ten of the most deprived neighbourhoods in the co
untry are right here in Blackpool. Could we\, the people of Blackpool\, be
tter identify where funds should go to create real lasting changes\, and i
 n doing so\, could we overcome division\, and build a strong\, inclusive
story of us’?\n\nJoin us and the Ella Baker School of Organising\, to ex
plore how we might start to make a people’s plan for Blackpool’s regen
eration.\nBook your free place here\n\n\n\nAbout the training programme\nM
any good people\, exasperated at the growth in narratives of division feel
frozen and unable to act as they are unsure how to make a positive impact
.\n\nThese series of informal online and in-person training workshops be
gins from the assumption that people who hold divisive views are not neces
sarily bad people\, and that we have a wider responsibility to:\n\n Engag
e with them about their views\; and\n Work with them to address the issue
s that are causing their resentment (usually cross-community issues such a
s low paid\, insecure work\, housing affordability\, the quality of public
services\, and the breakdown in an inclusive sense of ‘us’ within com
munities).\n\nDelivered in partnership with the experienced facilitators f
rom Ella Baker School of Organising\, these sessions will equip people ac
tive at a grassroots level to effectively act to reduce tension\, build un
 ity and address resentments.\n\n
