Nicola's practice-based PhD research project explores the therapeutic potential of both photography and water-based sel f-portraiture.\n\nUsing both analogue and digital waterproof cameras\, to document and record her wild swims\, has become a method of reclaiming the body – subsequently\, animating these still images has become an expres sion of being alive. Nicola utilises sustainable darkroom techniques and f oraged materials that connect to the very land that is healing her. To dev elop a unique form of practice that visually represents her embodied respo nse post- cervical cancer/ hysterectomy and focuses on the positive healin g aspects of this ongoing recovery process.
