From time to time, Aunty offers paid, volunteer and work experience opportunities where you can work with our team on a variety of exciting projects.

 

  • We are a Living Wage employer: we will pay the National Living Wage as a minimum in our PAYE posts.
  • When advertising freelance opportunities, we will base payments to freelancers on the Artists Union rates of pay.
  • As we are a voluntary organisation, artists may want to volunteer their time. In these cases, we will (as a minimum) offer to cover materials and expenses.

2024

We want to recruit an administrator to join our small team.

This is an ideal role for someone with good organisation skills starting out in arts administration, it is especially suited to those who would like to lead or plan community art projects in the future.
 
You’ll carry out a variety of admin and venue-related activities from August 2024, supporting our growing community arts organisation.
 
You’ll be communicating with a variety of people and will most likely be the first person that our visitors, customers and volunteers will have contact with over email and social media. So it’s important that you are personable and able to adapt your communication style to suit. Providing a warm welcome and friendly introduction to our organisation is central to what we do and a key part of our values. This role is primarily based at our Blackpool town centre venue:
  • an independent shop that specialises in artworks, homeware and gift products made by artists and makers based in the North West.
  • Workshop spaces for art, craft, heritage and community activities.
  • Blackpool Community Darkroom – for film photographers.

We’re offering a role that will allow you to use your own initiative, interact with art lovers and promote local talent in a fun and creative environment. You’ll carry out retail and customer service activities from October 2023, selling high quality, design led products and artworks.

Aunty Social is seeking staff to support their upcoming BFI-supported Film Club.

This summer, we’re bringing back our film club that will support 15 budding filmmakers aged 12-15 yrs. They’ll learn how films are made and try out lots of different skills including scriptwriting, model-making, filming on location, cinematography and video editing. Their final film will be shown at a big showcase event for friends and family.

Seasonal Sales Supervisor

This role is based at our Blackpool town centre retail store, an independent shop that specialises in artworks, homeware and gift products made by artists and makers based in the North West.

 

Hourly Rate 

£10.90, PAYE, paid weekly  (The UK Real Living Wage)

Weekly Hours 

22.5 hours

  • This position is across three days out of seven: Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. 
  • Hours: 10:30am – 6:30pm. 
  • 30 minute lunch break

Contract Length 

Fixed term: 15 days during December 2022*.

  • Thurs 1 – Sat 3 Dec
  • Thurs 8 – Sat 10 Dec
  • Thurs 15 – Sat 17 Dec
  • Thurs 22 – Sat 24 Dec
  • Thurs 29 – Sat 31 Dec

  • Induction day (paid): w/c 28 November.
  • Annual leave: Annual entitlement = 16.8 days, entitlement for this role = 1.4 days.

Blackpool Heritage Action Zone
Open Call:  Proposals for funded Workshop Sessions – 27 August 2022

The brief: We’re offering 3 x opportunities for local creatives. We would like to hear from artists who can run bookable or drop-in activities for families at Blackpool Winter Gardens in August 2022

  • Theme: High Street Heritage/our town. 
  • You will ideally have experience of working with the public on community art projects, especially families and children aged (approx.) from toddlers to 12 years. (You don’t need to be DBS checked – as parents/chaperones and staff will be present during the activities.)
  • You will need to attend from 10am to 3pm plus set up/packing away time.
  • The activity should last approx 1 hour with 1 session starting in the morning and a second in the early afternoon
  • You should consider how the sessions can be delivered safely in a post-Covid environment.We can provide trestle tables/chairs/sanitiser, as required.
  • Activity can take place outside the venue (e.g. outdoor photography) but must start/finish at the venue.

The fee is £260 for each opportunity. 

This will include planning and preparation, and delivery of the activity on 27 August 2022. We pay artists based on rates advised by the Artists’ Union England and Arts Council England.

November 2021: Film writers needed for the new festival website

After 6 fabulous years of screenings and events, we are re-launching our film festival website in December 2021! This is a fantastic opportunity to get your work published and accessible to a diverse North West audience. 

What are we looking for?
We’re searching for writers to submit a piece that explores any of the following themes:

🎬 A black and white film 
🎬 Blackpool’s film heritage or its current scene
🎬 The work of an actor, director, filmmaker
🎬 An artist working with moving image
🎬 A film genre or movement
🎬 An aspect of filmmaking
🎬 Your personal film story/practice

Your piece can be in the form of a review, a short critique essay, a photo essay, a top 5 (or top 10) or a similar piece of text that you think could be suited to our website and audience.
