Are you bothered by something unfair in society? Want to do something about it?
Blackpool Activist Alliance invites you to a series of workshops where we will all share skills and knowledge that empowers us to make positive change on the issues we care about.
Students against misogyny
Calling all students! Join us for an empowering and thought-provoking activist session focused on tackling misogyny within schools and/or colleges. This gathering aims to bring together passionate individuals who believe in gender equality and are committed to fighting against the pervasive issue of misogyny and the harm it leads to in our society.
This session will delve into the complex nature of misogyny, exploring its roots, manifestations, and impact on individuals and communities. Through interactive discussions, informative presentations, and engaging activities, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by women and girls locally.
The session will provide a safe space for open dialogue, encouraging students to share their personal experiences, insights, and concerns regarding misogyny. Through active listening and empathetic communication, attendees will foster a supportive environment that promotes solidarity and unity in the face of gender-based discrimination.
Equipping you with knowledge and awareness, participants will also explore strategies for challenging and dismantling misogyny within their educational institutions. From awareness campaigns and allyship initiatives to advocating for policy changes, this session will empower students to become agents of change in the fight against misogynistic abuse, violence and sexual harassment.
Regardless of your background or prior knowledge on the subject, your voice matters. Whether you are a student who has directly experienced misogyny or an ally looking to support the cause, this activist session is an opportunity to learn, grow, and take action. Together, let’s build a future where everyone can thrive regardless of their gender, and where equality is not just an aspiration but a reality. Join us as we unite, educate, and mobilize students against misogyny and be a part of the movement to create lasting change.
Who is running the session?
Aviel from Empowerment Charity – “I have been campaigning and involved in community development for 8 years on projects locally and internationally. My focus has been on supporting young people to find and use their voice to make the changes they want to see in their lives and/or community. I have been part of The DEN team at Empowerment for 6 years providing support for young people experiencing domestic abuse, a vital service but it does not address the route of the problem. I now focus on empowering young people through education and changing systems so we can change the cultures that allow gender-based violence to continue.”

Who are the Activist Alliance?
This event and the following skills and knowledge exchange workshops are being programmed and facilitated by the Activist Alliance.
The Activist Alliance is a collaboration between Boingboing Foundation and community partners like Aunty Social, Empowement, Ella Baker School of Organising based on the concept of Activism for Resilience, the idea that people taking action towards social justice is beneficial to their mental health and wellbeing, both in the doing itself and in the potential outcomes. This is why the Boingboing conception of resilience is ‘beating the odds whilst also changing the odds’.
This is part of a stream of workshops where we will share skills and knowledge equipping us all to take steps towards positive change on the issues that we care about.
