Defeating Narratives of Division – Training Booklet
If we get ourselves organised, drawing inspiration from our history, we can build power in our communities in a process which not only isolates the narratives of division, but also begins to address the feelings of fear, resentment and despair that they depend upon.
Over the last 18 months, we’ve seen narratives of division poisoning community relations, escalating to violent conflict on Blackpool’s streets. More and more otherwise decent people seem to be being drawn into blaming ‘minorities’ for problems that they have not caused.
In August 2025, we began delivery of a series of informal online and in-person training workshops in partnership with the Ella Baker School of Organising. These sessions equip people active at a grassroots level to effectively act to reduce tension, build unity and address resentments within their own spaces and communities. Working with experienced facilitators, we’ve shaped this training specifically to the Blackpool context, delivering to local community leaders, artists, voluntary/public sector workers, committed individuals and activists.

This manifesto booklet is one of the training resources, produced by the Ella Baker School of Organising. It features creative work made by Blackpool-based artists and local residents via open calls and creative outreach sessions.

By convening and equipping a layer of well-placed local people with the skills and knowledge to intervene effectively, we hope to strengthen the resilience of communities, build connections of goodwill and enable grassroots responses to misinformation.
