Join Blackpool Community Darkroom Collective to learn the basics of black and white print processes in the friendly and welcoming environment of Blackpool Community Darkroom.

Suitable for beginners or those wishing to refresh their skills, you’ll learn in a small group with our skilled practitioners who will guide you through creating a black and white print step by step.
You’ll learn how to create a contact proof and how to expose and develop a final black and white photographic print.

What you will need

  • Your own 35mm negatives. This can either be a black and white film that you have shot and developed previously OR negatives that you have had professionally developed.
  • We will supply the chemicals, equipment and PPE required make several prints for you to take home.
  • Suitable old clothing is recommended as a staining developer is used.
  • 2 sheets of photographic paper (Ilford 7×5 sheets) included. You can bring your own photographic paper, or buy paper to use on the day – 70p per sheet- and you can buy on the day with cash or card.
  • All other equipment and supplies are included.

This workshop can be booked as part of an introductory series to darkroom practice, including a photo walk and film development, or as a stand alone unit.

This is a pay what you feel activity – suggested fee £5.

Important info: Please note that this session is upstairs. We’re inthe process of installing a lift, which should be ready by late February 2024.The darkroom is up a single flight of 14 steps then you go around the corner and there are two small steps. Once you’re upstairs there’s a loo. You shouldn’t need to come downstairs for anything until the end of the activity.

  • Tram to North Pier
  • Bus: No 3,4 or 6 bus to Topping St. No 2, 2C, 3, 7, 7, 11, 14, 17, 18 or 20 to Church St (Stanley Buildings)
  • Driving: The closest pay and display car parks are on East Topping St and Talbot Road multi storey. There is also parking at the nearby Sainsbury’s supermarket, please make sure that you check the terms before you use the car park. Free parking is available on most streets around the venue from 6pm, please make sure to check signage before leaving your car.
