Join us at Blackpool Community Darkroom in Aunty Social as the programme restarts for 2025.

In March we are delighted to welcoming Aunty Social’s exhibiting artist Juliet Klottrup to the photo social. She will be talking about her recent series ‘Skate Like a Lass’.

The photographic and film project focuses on Female established inclusive grassroots Skateboarding communities based in the North, UK. From mountains in Lake District to Blackpool promenade. These skate collectives were created to provide a safe space & welcoming environment for female & LGBT+ skaters in the area. Over time Juliet worked with the collectives sharing cameras and getting them to self shoot to create an archive of images.

Using analogue photography and film, Juliet documents social and environmental stories, collaborating with local communities to explore identity, belonging, and the connection between people and place. Her work, spanning still and motion images, focuses on youth, rural traditions, and community life.

Her short documentary Travelling Home screened at BAFTA and BIFA-qualifying festivals, including London Film Festival, in 2024. Juliet won the 2020 Portrait of Britain Award, was shortlisted for Portrait of Humanity, and in 2021, her film Youth of the Rural North was nominated for Best Documentary at the British Film Awards.
