Queer Craft Club – LGBT+ History Month Special

Queer Craft Club - LGBT+ History Month Special

When

28 February 2025
1:00pm - 3:00pm

Event Type

Join Teddy Bear Josh (They/He) to celebrate LGBT+ History Month with a variety of mini crafts that inspire activism and social change.

Hang out with fellow adults who identify under the queer and trans (LGBTQIA+) umbrella, enjoy yummy snacks and a chilled craft session!

You can work on this group project or bring your own. So if you want to get crafty, this is the place for you, whether you’re a first time dabbler or an experienced maker.

The theme of this year’s history month is Activism and Social Change.Throughout history LGBTQIA+ people have been activists helping shape and create social change; advancing society for everyone using many different approaches.Join us at Aunty Social to explore the history of activism in the LGBTQIA+ community whilst getting crafty. Choose from one of the below, or have a go at all three:

  • Stonewall: Create a glitter brick.
We pay tribute to the two trans women of colour, Marsha P Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, key historic figures present at Stonewall and at the forefront of the LGBTQIA+ rights movement that was born from the riot.
The legendary piece of brick hurled at police officers outside of the Stonewall Inn sparked the historic uprising, and with it the LGBTQIA+ rights movement. We’re crafting a proud (and very camp) tribute.
  • Pride in Protest: Design your own pin badges inspired by designs of the Gay Liberation Front, Lesbian Liberation, Gay News Fighting Fund and Trades Unionists Against Section 28.
  • Dragtivist Dolls: Drag performers have a long history or championing LGBT+ rights, often acting as spokespeople and community leaders. We’ll create drag peg dolls that carry important messages that highlight and affirm the rights of LGBTQIA+ people today.

We’ll supply

  • All materials and tuition
  • Hot/cold drinks and tasty snacks
  • Pronoun badges
