Richard Oughton – It’s All About The Light
Join us for our next Free Photography Social on 15th August 6-8pm at Aunty Social, Topping Street.
As part of our programme supported by Photoworks Photography, lecturer Richard Oughton https://www.richardoughton.co.uk/ will be joining us.
A Blackpool based photographer.
If asked where you would find him it would be on the edge of the dance floor in the shadows. An unawareness of the camera enabling him to capture that decisive moment.
It’s almost two decades now since he picked up a camera and it’s been an amazing journey. Focusing on underground British subcultures including Northern Soul, Mod, Ska and Skinhead with their pathognomonic aesthetic and rituals, he explores the exceptional dynamic between people and their all-consuming passion be it music, scooters or fashion.
Also of integral importance to his work, is to narrate the importance of both individual identity and a collective sense of camaraderie that underpins these cultural movements.
His photographic look and style is about capturing and creating a unique and atmospheric look to evoke the senses this also resonates within his portraiture and commissioned pieces. His style may not be to everyone’s liking but, if you’ve read this far, then you know what you’re getting yourself in to…it’s all about the light.
